HUMANITARIAN COMMITTEE MISSION

We are so proud and excited to present to you for the very first time a Humanitarian Committee, as a sub-committee to the parent organization Vidyaranya Kannada Kuta. The aim is to give back to the community we live in.

Mission of VKKHC is to improve the lives and protect the dignity of the less fortunate in our community. Our humanitarian endeavors are aimed at promoting and strengthening our community and our basic humanitarian principles which is innate to each one of us.

Vision – Although VKKHC is still in its infancy and will no doubt have a few teething problems along the way, we have a vision – Combine meaningful volunteer work and real life experiences to address a real community need.

Here’s how – We have planned various programs and activities and we are looking for volunteers. Below is a list of activities that we have planned for VKK patrons. We are sure that you will find these activities very gratifying and you can make it fun by inviting your family and friends to volunteer with you.

Clothes/shoes and electronic drive – February 2, 2013

Stay Warm Program – Make blankets and donate to shelter for homeless like PADS in Wheaton and North Chicago, Pacific Garden in Chicago – looking for sponsors for material for the blankets and volunteers to sew the blankets. Please see a VKKHC member for more details. Goal is 100 blankets to be donated no later than Thanksgiving 2013. Details on workshops and instructions to follow. Details on how to score points for community service to follow as well.

Blood Drive in association with the Hindu Temple of Greater Chicago in Lemont. Looking for blood donors. Details to follow.

Health Clinic in association with the Hindu Temple of Greater Chicago in Lemont. Looking for doctors to volunteer their time and service and other youth volunteers to help with the set up and management of the health clinic. Details to follow.

Feed my starving children food packing activity – We invite adult and youth volunteers to help pack food for the starving children in other countries. Tentative date is August 17, 2013. Liaise with WTTW/PBS local channels to help with their pledge drives. Enlist our youth volunteers to participate in the pledge drive to score points for volunteer work.
